The best way to get a developer comfortable with their work environment is to get them acquainted with their product they work with. This can be approached in may ways. Ideally you will have a section that you can give them that will allow them to experience the app as a customer. This will show them how the application is meant to be run. The next best thing to do is to assign them simple PRs that will function as a way to understand the code base, workflow, as well as an easy win for the dev. During this time, it is important to encourage collaboration between the new developer and those more experienced than them. This fosters teamwork and will plant the seed for future communication.
